Gift Cards – What you need to know!

Gift Card

Gift Cards can make a great present, they can be bought in small or large denominations, depending on who the present is for. They allow the recipient to choose something they will love.

However, there is no doubt that the retail landscape is changing, and with Brexit raging on, this doesn’t look like it will alter any time soon. Many businesses go bust in the first few months of the year, if they have not made enough money during the Christmas period.

Last Christmas

Last Christmas - Universal Pictures

Last Christmas? I know what you are thinking, it’s only November? So, why am I talking about a Christmas film? Well, this movie does have a Christmas back-drop, but really it is a fun-loving, light-hearted British rom-com, that just happens to be out in UK cinemas from the 15th November 2019.

The Cast

Emma Thompson features in the film, but she is also one of the writers. In fact, the film was inspired by a George Michael song ‘Last Christmas’. George Michael was involved in the early stages of the film, but sadly he passed away before the project really got off the ground.

Take expensive items with you. In this day and age with baggage allowances getting smaller, and airlines charging extras for every piece of luggage it can feel easier to travel light and leave many holiday essentials at home. However, once in a resort, you may find that many items are much more expensive abroad, for example sun tan lotion, insect repellent, first-aid medications, baby items etc.

Holiday Planning

Avoid any last-minute hiccups and start researching/sorting now:

Holiday

Many people will have already booked their summer holiday, but having poured over reviews to select the best accommodation, we often leave the finer details to the last minute. Brexit – whether we leave the EU or end up with a no-deal situation, may add further complications to your holiday planning.

Summer Solstice: Embrace the Season

The summer solstice is upon us, arriving on Friday 21st June. Why not use this date as a jumping off point to embrace all that the summer months have to offer?

Summer Solstice

Unplug

If you are guilty of a bit too much social media and screen time generally, then now may be the perfect time to switch off devices and notifications and really connect with your family, loved ones and friends on a face-to-face basis. You might be really surprised by how much more you feel ‘connected’ for stepping into the real world once more, and not spending so much time virtually.

Sunrise/Sunset

There is something very spiritual about witnessing a sunrise and sunset. Try to find time to experience both, and feel reenergised by the magic.

Angel Crafts

Angel CardsSchool holidays are in full swing, so ifyou have children at home and are doing some arts and crafts, why not join in the fun and create your own Angel Card deck.

Making the cards

  • Angel card decks vary in number from 34-48 cards.
  • You will need to cut pieces of card, all to the same size – you can base these on the size of playing cards; or go bigger if your shuffling abilities are not great, or you really want to go to town on the design of the cards!

Top Tips for staying sane as you prepare to go on holiday!

HolidayAre you one of the few people that has packing a case and going on holiday down to a fine art; or does you house look like a whirlwind has rushed through it and like you are one step away from an almighty row with whoever gets in your way, including the family pets!

If it’s the latter, then perhaps our useful tips will get you on the road to a smoother journey this year.

Like many things in life, a little bit of planning goes a long way, and getting as many jobs out of the way early is the key to success:

  • Check that your passports and driving licences are in date (some countries require a certain number of months left on the passport in order to accept you). It is a good idea to either have copies of the documents, or at least the numbers – in the case of loss/theft.
  • Check if you need to apply for any visa’s, or documents such as DVLA documents for hiring a car.

Chinese New Year 2018: The Year of the Dog

Chinese New Year: Year of the DogChinese New Year commences today on Friday 16th February 2018, bringing in the year of the Dog and saying goodbye to the year of the Rooster.

The Years

Those born in 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006 and 2018 were born in Dog years. The next Dog year after 2018 will be 2030. The Dog is the eleventh position within the Chinese zodiac, following the Rooster and falling before the Pig.

Elements

China also works with element theory, so each zodiac sign is also associated with one of the five elements: Gold (metal), Wood, Water, Fire and Earth. The characteristics of a person are therefore impacted by both their animal sign and element. (more…)

Boost Your Immune System in Unexpected Ways

Immune SystemAt this time of year coughs and colds are prevalent, the stress of Christmas and sometimes burning the candle at both ends during the holiday season can leave your immune system a little under par.

Rather than turning to the medicine cabinet, why not try boosting your immune system in a more holistic way? You might be surprised at what works:

Mingle

It is easy to stay at home in-doors when the weather is wet and cold, but actually getting out, meeting with friends and family and having meaningful interactions reduces chronic stress, which in turn reduces negative impacts on your immune system. (more…)

Have a Spiritual Halloween

HalloweenI often think of Halloween as being a ‘festival’ that is highly celebrated in America, but according to statistics the UK spent in excess of £300 million in 2016 on things related to celebrating Halloween.

Perhaps it is not surprising as supermarkets and shops embrace the holiday and find new ways to entice us into buying fancy dress costumes and trick or treat chocolates and so on. No sooner have ‘back to school’ items been put away then the isles will be filled with a sea of witches’ hats, and all things black, orange and purple!

Of course if you have children you may need to embark on a few of these more commercial adventures, but perhaps you could also look at new and more spiritual ways to ring in All Hallow’s Eve, as many of the day’s origins are far more sacred in nature. (more…)
