Smoky Quartz to Sage – herbs & crystals for autumn

Smoky Quartz

If you would like to enhance your intuition and inner-guidance during the magical month of October and beyond, then, we have three herbs and three crystals for you to consider.

Smoky Quartz

Many people turn to Smoky Quartz as the seasons change, or indeed as the season of life changes. Its earthy colours, certainly lend itself well to the autumn season. If the return to school, Halloween and the run up to Christmas season sends you into a tail-spin, then work with Smoky Quarts to feel grounded and calm and ready to release any fears and negativity.

Mugwort

You might have heard of Mugwort being described as the witch’s herb! It has been associated with spiritual communication, visions, divination and predictions. Some easy ways to incorporate the herb and benefits into your life is by buying dried Mugwort meant for brewing as tea, or simply burning Mugwort incense.

Obsidian

Did you know that Obsidian is a volcanic glass. Some people refer to it as the ‘mirror of the soul.’ At a time of Samhain, those more spiritually in tune may be turning to some shadow work. If you feel like you need to uncover hidden facts, or feel like you’ve not been facing up to something – this could be the perfect gem. Obsidian absorbs negativity, uncovers facts and offers spiritual protection.

Rowan

Rowan is not an herb, but a tree and is known as the Tree of Protection, and has long been associated with British Folklore. It is thought these trees were planted near homes to guard against malevolent spirits and dark energies. Once upon a time, folk may have strung the red berries into jewellery. Nowadays, an easier route is to carry a small piece of rowan wood with you. Or to place a few sprigs in the entranceway to your home.

Carnelian

If you are feeling in an introspective mood then the carnelian crystal may be the perfect stone to lean towards. It embraces the warmth and yet the vitality of the October season, and is great for sparking creativity and for times when you need to summon a bit of extra courage. If you are more of a spring/summer person, then carnelian may let you balance the heaviness that the autumn can bring with motivation, confidence and joy.

Sage

Burning sage for cleansing and purification purposes has been used for centuries across many different cultures. If you happen to have a sage plant in your garden, why not cut a few leaves and do a smudging ritual throughout your home around the Samhain season. It has a lovely smell, and brings clarity to many – clearing away feelings that you are stagnating.
