The Other Woman

poster-for-the-movie-the-other-womanCameron Diaz is often thought of as a non-serious romantic comedy actress, and it is true that she has played the lead role in some films of this genre such as My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Holiday and Bad Teacher. But she has also acted in more serious films, such as Being John Malkovich, Gangs of New York, Vanilla Sky and There’s Something About Mary where she received Golden Globe Award nominations.

Cameron’s early career was as a model, in fact she got her first acting role in film The Mask by accident, when an Agent for Elite (her modelling agency), had met the film producers of The Mask and knew they were looking for a female lead. Cameron started acting lessons once she had secured the part, the film went on to be one of the top 10 grossing films of 1994 and Cameron was launched as a sex symbol!

For a few years after The Mask Cameron mainly did independent films, and it was only after she returned to more commercial movies that her box office and financial success took off.

Between 1998 and 2009 she appeared in many films – Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her, Any Given Sunday, Very Bad Things…She also played a major part in the adaptation of Charlie’s Angels. In fact she became only the 3rd actress to receive a $20 million fee for her role in Charlie’s Angel’s: Full Throttle. She also voiced Princess Fiona’s voice for Shrek which earned her $10 million. She went on to act in In Her Shoes, My Sister’s Keeper, The Box and Knight and Day.

As well as her Golden Globe Award nominations, she has won the New York Film Critics Best Lead Actress Award for There’s Something About Mary, she is a BAFTA Nominee and in 2013 she was named the highest paid actress over 40 in Hollywood.

Not satisfied with just being an Actress she has recently written a book – called the The Body Book, in it she shares her formula for becoming happier, healthier, and stronger. The book is a positive, essential guide that is grounded in science and inspired by her personal experience. Cameron knows she is a role model for millions of women all over the world. But, as she’d be the first to admit, she hasn’t always been as health-conscious as she is now.

Over the past fifteen years, she has discovered that what she eats is inseparably linked to how she feels and looks. That knowledge – that nutrition impacts life – fuelled her hunger to educate herself about the best ways to care for her body. In The Body Book, Cameron shares what she’s learned and offers a comprehensive guide for women to look and feel their best.

Despite having many happy endings in films, Cameron’s love live has not been plain sailing, she has had a number of high profile long-term relationships, but has not settled yet. Between 1995 and 1998 she dated Matt Dillon, she then had a relationship with Jared Leto, whom she got engaged to in 2000, but in 2003 they broke off their four year relationship. Justin Timberlake and Cameron then dated seriously between 2003 and 2006 until the relationship broke down; her last known relationship was with Alex Rodriguez which started in July 2010 but had ended by September 2011.

She has kept busy since then and 2014 sees the release of 3 films, a remake of Annie where she plays Miss Hannigan, Sex Tape where she is back opposite Jason Segel and The Other Woman.
