Why not celebrate Halloween throughout October, in traditional style with scary films from Marvel Sci-Fi adventures, to true horror movies…
Starting with Natalie Portman staring alongside Chris Hemsworth in the 30th October 2013 UK release of Thor: The Dark World.
Marvel’s ‘Thor: The Dark World’ continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s ‘Thor’ and ‘Marvel’s The Avengers,’ Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
Thor played by Chris Hemsworth is the crown prince of Asgard, based on the Norse mythological deity of the same name. Jane Foster played by Natalie Portman is an astrophysicist and Thor’s love interest; who is brought from Earth to Asgard by Thor after she is infected with a mysterious energy. Tom Hiddleston plays Loki, Thor’s adoptive brother and nemesis, based on the deity of the same name, who is imprisoned after attempting to subjugate the Earth in The Avengers and forms an uneasy alliance with Thor against the Dark Elves.
Thor: The Dark World from one of the directors of TV’s magnificent Game of Thrones promises to be a ripping adventure with some great sequences of London being blasted. But if comic book meets Viking and Norse Mythology meets big screen does not do it for you, then read on for more October movies:
A Magnificent Haunting (UK release date 4th October 2013)
The only dream of Pietro is to become a famous actor. 28 year-old Pietro is so obsessed with becoming an actor that he does not mind trying every single way. He goes to Rome and starts to work in a bakery. Also, at the same time, he tries to be an actor. At first, he stays with his cousin, Maria, but then he rents a house. Nevertheless, in a short time, something weird happens at the house. As if the furniture moves by itself. Then he realises that the house was haunted by some ghosts, so with it, the adventure itself begins.
We Are What We Are (UK release date 25th October 2013):
In We Are What We Are, a seemingly wholesome and benevolent family, the Parkers have always kept to themselves, and for good reason. Behind closed doors, patriarch Frank (Sage) rules his family with a rigorous ferver, determined to keep his ancestral customs intact at any cost. As a torrential rainstorm moves into the area, tragedy strikes and his daughters Iris (Childers) and Rose (Garner) are forced to assume responsibilities that extend beyond those of a typical family. As the unrelenting downpour continues to flood their small town, the local authorities begin to uncover clues that bring them closer to the secret that the Parkers have held closely for so many years.
The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia (UK release date 31st Oct 2013):
Building on the terror of The Haunting in Connecticut, this tale traces a young family’s nightmarish descent into a centuries-old Southern hell. When Andy Wyrick moves his wife Lisa and daughter Heidi to a historic home in Georgia, they quickly discover they are not the house’s only inhabitants. Joined by Lisa’s free-spirited sister, Joyce, the family soon comes face-to-face with a mystery born of a deranged desire … a haunting secret rising from underground and threatening to bring down anyone in its path.
Some of the films mentioned may not get a full UK cinema release, check with your local centre for availability. Some of the movies are horror films and as such the themes may be violent in nature, please check the suitability before watching.
