Autumn Albums

Melanie C (Spice Girls)Greetings pop-pickers!

If you are of a certain age, you could be forgiven for thinking we have gone back in time when you look at some of the top album releases this autumn. Of course, we have to use the word ‘Album’ as some people under that age may not necessarily know what an ‘L.P’ is, nor may they understand queuing to buy the latest ‘record’ at a Virgin Megastore or even Woolworths!

Here’s our pick of the pops:

Our cover star – Melanie C puts out her new album titled ‘Version of Me’ on the 21st October 2016. This is actually her seventh album and contains the single ‘Anymore’ that was released in September. “I wanted to make an album that I would listen to now,” says Melanie. I’m not a leftfield artist, I never will be. I write pop songs, but my aim this time was to approach every aspect of them differently, to be more creative with structure and sounds. Whatever felt right, I went with.”

Robbie Williams returns with ‘Heavy Entertainment Show’ – 4th November 2016. This album is heavy on collaborations with John Grant, Brandon Flowers (The Killers frontman), Rufus Wainwright and even Ed Sheeran. The lead single is called Breathe Heavy and there is an accompanying music video. The highly anticipated album available from 4th November is his 11th studio outing and has been three years in the making.

Craig David with ‘Following My Intuition’. Mr David, aged 35, born in Southampton, has actually sold over 13.5 million records. Craig uses social media to connect to his audience during the making of his music. The concept of the latest album Following My Intuition started back in 2014 when he released a teaser track on Sound Cloud; he then uploaded another in January 2016 and followed with an announcement on social media in August the release date of 30th September 2016 for the full album.

Busted release their long-awaited third album ‘Night Driver’ on 11th November 2016, their last was in 2004!  The first song taken from the album, ‘Coming Home’, was released on 3 May 2016 as a free download.

Bon Jovi’s thirteenth studio album The house is not for sale’ is out on 21st October 2016. Top-Pop-Jovi-Facts: It’s the first Bon Jovi studio album without former guitarist Richie Sambora. It’s also their first album to feature the band’s new guitarist Phil X. Plus… Hugh McDonald, the ‘unofficial bassist’ since 1994 is now an official member. Well done Hugh!

Madness release ‘Can’t touch us now’ on 28th October 2016. An easier title to ask for at the record shop than their last album: ‘Oui Oui, Si Si, Ja Ja, Da Da’. Suggs and the gang are back with fresh material guaranteed to get you dancing like your dad in the living room.

Metallica’s ‘Hardwired to Self-Destruct’ (18th November 2016) and Pretenders ‘Alone’ (21st October 2016), both release their first studio albums since 2008. Maybe skipping the former as part of your mum’s Christmas stocking, and go for the latest Cliff Richard album ‘Fabulous Rock N Roll’ available 11th November instead.

I’ll leave you with more 2017 gossip as a juxtaposition of the music world. Rumour has it that Guns N’ Roses may be releasing a new album, and may even headline at Glastonbury. Roxy Music could be making a new album, and the Sugababes return with more tunes. It would be slightly strange if you are excited about all three! ‘Not ‘Arf!’
